Loading and unloading at the loading ramps is all about waiting times, throughput and space optimization. This applies not only to the direct spaces at the loading and unloading terminal, but also to the parking and waiting areas for delivering and collecting freight forwarders.
Limited space, increasing goods traffic and tight time frames call for a clever solution.
Our task in this project was to analyze the traffic areas and flows, develop an optimal usage concept and develop algorithms and a software prototype.
The algorithms have solved the following tasks:
- Determination of optimal approach and departure routes for trucks in the loading terminal areas to avoid traffic jams and obstructions in areas that are difficult to maneuver
- Determination of optimal waiting sequences and positions in the waiting areas in order to optimally position the trucks in the line of expected handling at the loading and unloading terminal
- Determination of the expected loading and unloading time based on the freight lists of the freight forwarders
- Mobile check-in/check-out of trucks when entering and leaving the site
Through analysis, simulation and conceptual proof of feasibility, our concepts were able to achieve significant increases in handling and, in particular, a high level of acceptance among truckers without the need to expand the area through construction measures.
