Intranet migration (Mercedes)

An intranet migration at Mercedes-Benz Group AG (formerly Daimler AG), one of the most successful automotive companies in the world, is always an exciting task.

An intranet migration at Mercedes-Benz Group AG (formerly Daimler AG), one of the most successful automotive companies in the world, is always an exciting task.

The specific project involved the integration and redesign of the best intranets of formerly separate organizational areas. In particular, the strategic realignment of the service landscape for a consolidated intranet presence was to be developed before the technical conception and implementation.

The combination of strategy development, design of new business or service models as well as the conception and realization of the digital twin to the business design is a perfectly suited challenge for us

Rüdiger Gros, CEO EFEXCON AG

Results of the intranet migration

After completing the functional and technical analysis steps, our consultants were able to work with the department to create the functional target concept and the future service catalog for the newly merged organizational unit.

The content of the services offered in the new service catalog and the operating concepts for potential service users were then designed for the respective services. The department's editorial and service processes were then redefined and structured with a view to later automation.

Parallel to the maturing of the specialist processes, we designed and implemented the templates and standard modules of the new intranet and iteratively tested, improved and expanded the results of the intranet migration.

Since completion of the project, the department has made its service catalog and services available on an interactive intranet site with largely automated standard processes, professional content editing and customer-oriented services.

An intranet migration has many triggers

An intranet migration can be necessary for various reasons. Below is a list of some of the triggers that we have encountered in the course of our projects:

  1. Technology upgrade: If the existing intranet system is outdated and no longer meets current requirements, a migration to a more modern platform may be necessary to ensure that employees can communicate and collaborate effectively.
  2. Consolidation of intranets: In large companies, there may be several intranet systems that are operated separately. Migrating to a single, centralized platform can improve efficiency and productivity while reducing costs.
  3. Improved security: Migrating to a new platform can also involve improving security features, such as implementing security protocols that ensure the confidentiality of information and data.
  4. Increased scalability: As a business grows and changes, a migration to a scalable platform may be required to ensure that the intranet system can keep pace with the needs of the business.
  5. Improved user experience: Migrating to a new platform can also improve usability and user experience by providing easier navigation, faster loading times and increased functionality.
  6. Simplified maintenance and support: Migrating to a new platform can also mean simplified maintenance and support, as the new system may provide better documentation and training for administrators and users.
  7. Integration with other systems: Migrating to a new platform can also help to seamlessly integrate the intranet system with other systems and tools, such as CRM and ERP systems, to increase productivity and efficiency.
