PDM system strategy (Volkswagen)

A PDM system strategy defines a company's approach to the central management and provision of product information

A PDM system strategy defines the boundary conditions for a PDM software solution. PDM solutions help to centrally manage and share product information.

A PDM system strategy is therefore the planning and implementation of measures to effectively and successfully integrate a PDM system into a company's business processes.

Lines as part of the PDM system strategy

  1. Analysis of the business processes: A PDM system strategy begins with an analysis of the business processes in order to understand what requirements the company has for a PDM system. This involves examining the processes and workflows in product development and product data management.
  2. Definition of requirements: The requirements for the PDM system are defined on the basis of the analysis of the business processes. This involves the functions and properties that the system must fulfill in order to meet the company's requirements.
  3. Selection of a suitable PDM system: A suitable PDM system is selected based on the defined requirements. Aspects such as user-friendliness, integration into existing systems and scalability should also be taken into account.
  4. Implementation of the PDM system: Once the PDM system has been selected, it is implemented. The system must be configured and, if necessary, adapted. Integration into the company's existing IT landscape is also an important aspect.
  5. Employee training: In order for the PDM system to be used effectively, it is important to train employees in how to use the system. This involves both technical training and the teaching of best practices in product data management.
  6. Monitoring and optimization: After implementation, it is important to continuously monitor and optimize the PDM system. This involves reviewing the business processes and improving the functions and features of the system.

A PDM system strategy is therefore an important part of the corporate strategy to make product development more effective and efficient.
